The Duke had fallen silent, which was just as well. Pern was not a particularly good conversationalist and had run out of patently polite things to say that were neither dismissive nor engaging. As the man went about his own way the Orc turned back to her pony and a short shake of her head, grumbling something under her breath. Pern left the pony to his dinner and turned back to the tent, stepping inside to set up the bedrolls. The tent was largish enough for her to stand in and spacious enough to accomodate both bedrolls with plenty of room to spare. Their supply trunk set between the rolls and the center curtain drawn for privacy, Pern set Kaelen's sword down on the chest and turned rummage through a smaller satchel of her own personal belongings. She had every intention of writing a short letter to Ignatius now that things had settled down but paused as she heard Kaelen's voice approaching the campsite. Pern pulled the tent flap back and peered outside at the Knight and his new conversational partner. "Ex-coosh me, Mish, ish thish man bothering you?" the orc offered over a faint smirk. Kaelen Silverblood Pern Elrid strode alongside, listening, as the man spoke. And he spoke a lot. More than was normal for most people of the Acholt, which brought a slight smirk to her face. Then he flattered her and winked. She raised an eyebrow, but kept listening as he talked. Those were some interesting thoughts, but they smacked of arrogance and a belief that others owed him something. But he had parsed through her lie, which was something. She shrugged it away and waved to Pern after she addressed them. "Well," Elrid said after a moment, "He's a shameless flatterer. I suppose that could be bothersome." She knelt next to Gerafel who nuzzled her and whined happily. How much else was she to address at this point? That was the delicate point that she had to balance upon, between asserting her authority and being a welcoming host. As her guests, the laws of hospitality hampered her action. But then, the laws of hospitality also forbade the man's actions in assaulting her cousins. Yet, he seemed to be unaware of the laws. Perhaps his people had forgotten roots that bound society together, which was a shame. But she continued, choose honesty as he had. "And he assaulted my cousins," her voice was calm, but now held a tautness like a drawn bow. "Because he claims activities by those representing the queen can start a war. Yet if they are an extension of the queen, then assaulting them would be like assaulting the queen." She turned a guileless smile his way. "That I think is usually far more cause for war than taking offense for someone else's sake." The smile faded and she tilted her head in thought. "Yet I think that holding one's self as the highest authority as a guest dishonors the laws older than these woods." Elrid looked back over to Pern, rubbing Gerafel's ears. "I apologize for such a long-winded answer. Have you been able to settle well into the campsite?"
