"It can be how it works. The game is changing, Gema, and we must change with it. I've as much desire to rule as an elk desires to be food." His broad shoulders hefted into a shrug, and he cast his eyes towards the ground with a frown creasing his weatherbeaten face.
The King had been a wise, intelligent man. Skal was a warrior, through and through, and while perhaps, in his younger days, he may have longed to be in complete control, by now it held no luster for him.
"Our new ruler is young, but untempered. He's made this a hard time, and hard times make strong leaders; you can be one of them. You have time to grow into the idea. I've time to grow into becoming a mentor."

She felt her frown crease ever deeper at the elder's words. Breaking the game was what got them in this mess to begin with - didn't make more sense to fix what had been broken? They'd lived in relative peace, enjoyed the greatest era of prosperity and growth in Nordenfiiri history, living by the laws forged in the Solstal Aisle.
Maude's brow set low over her eyes, "Only the King knew how the amulet worked. Only his heir was to learn the secrets. If he had any hidden notes on it Borvenir has surely found them after taking Solstal," she pulled the necklace over her head and tucked the amulet under her breastplate. With it secure the leather hide now fell under her attention again, "we'll have to find someone that can translate the runes. There's a dark elf mage in this settlement, perhaps she'll be willing to trade information for your bounty."

Skal studied her for a moment; her confusion, her apprehension, the gentle nudge towards pushing onward. "Then I say we pay this mage a visit." He says, nodding as he moves over to his mine-home and shuts the door. As if anyone was actually going to come up here and raid his 'homestead.'
Better to be safe than sorry, however.
"I trust you know where he is, cause I certainly don't." A small smile creased his lips. "I'll even make sure to remind him to keep his mouth shut."
