NAME: The Labyrinth of Canyons, or, in modern, the Labyrinth Caravans.
KINGDOM AT A GLANCE: Formerly a large kingdom of minotaurs dwelling in a maze of canyons and mountains. Now a pile of ruins and a small nation of refugees.
SIZE AND LOCATION: Large area, small population scattered.
WEALTH: Used to be fairly wealthy, before msot of the nice thigns got buried under lava and fire. Now, they live as nomads and hermits, scrounging waht they can to rebuild.
STABILITY: Not great. As of right now, the lion's chare ot the Labyrinthine survivors are nomadic wanderers tryign to find a new place settle down. A group known as the seekers are trying to find a land large enough to support them as a nation-state yet again.
DANGER TO TRAVELERS: The Canyons themselves are still active volcanically, and are very dangerous. The nomads are homeless minotaurs trying to eke out a living in a shattered empire, so they're only moderately dangerous.
FORM OF GOVERNMENT: A loose confederation. The Seekers act as an indepenedent council of leaders, and issue directives to other wanderers who travel in groups refereed to as caravans. Some seekers prefer to have little involvement, while others invovle themselves quite thoroughly.
FREEDOM AND OPPRESSION: Each Caravan tends to have its own rules, but between the nomadic nature and the overall concerns of finding a new place to settle outweighing the desire for strict guidance, most of the Labyrinthine are both self-identified and self-governed in a fairly casual sense. Most Caravans try to avoid stirrign up trouble with the local communities, and most communities, to their credit, are on decent terms with their transient neighbors. Most of the Caravans are made up of a few clans with multiple surnames in the caravan.
COMMON SPECIES: Most of the Labyrinthine refugees are minotaurs, although there are a few small groups of dwarves and humans who worked there as artisans. There is one caravan that is known to have a family of elves following it.
MILITARY FOCUS: Due to their diminished numbers after the cataclysm and the general lack of morale, most caravans avoid fighting in any conflict that is not self-defense. However, when engaged, they form a fairly sturdy militia, using a fairly straightforward melee assault and defensive formations revolving around bucklers and bracers. Bows are uncommon among minotaurs, but slings and thrown weapons such as javelins are not uncommon.
TECHNOLOGY: Most caravans have the rudiments of medieval travel and and equipment. However, the original Labyrinth cities were known primarily for their focus on very elegant and specialized stonecutting and clay making techniques, as Minotaurs found the canyons full of what can best be translated as "healthy earth," or earth infused with small amounts of latent magic to make it more pliable.
PLAYER CONTROLLED: Thraka is a Seeker with some autonomy, and I might develop that into soemthing bigger later. Should others wish to play a seeker, go for it. Seekers are a fun concept. Just keep in mind that they are mostly Minotaurs, and it'd be unusual for a leader in this nation to not be one.
