NAME: Silverclaw Valley KINGDOM AT A GLANCE: A northern mountain kingdom in a large valley. Its wealth lies in salt, silver, and granite. The barons are divided and revolting against the king. A magical barrier has failed, revealing the valley to the outside world and leaving it only lightly defended. SIZE AND LOCATION: Silverclaw Valley is medium-sized as kingdoms go. It's a single large valley in a mountain chain to the north, within striking distance of Leichenfurstenbund, Ashdell, Idmidum, Mystmarch, and other kingdoms. WEALTH: Medium. Since its emergence from the magical barrier which protected it, Silverclaw Valley has been making strong profits from its excess stockpiles of salt, dressed granite, and silver. STABILITY: Low. Several of the barons have risen up against the king and each other. DANGER TO TRAVELERS: Medium due to unrest and crackdowns against said unrest. FORM OF GOVERNMENT: Silverclaw Valley is a true feudal kingdom writ small. The king rules half a dozen barons, each of whom controls a large town, some silver mines, and some farmland. FREEDOM AND OPPRESSION: The embattled king has little control over his territory. The barons control their respective towns tightly, but their influence fades with distance. COMMON SPECIES: Silverclaw Valley's inhabitants are 65% human, 10% halfling, 15% elf, 10% dwarf. MILITARY FOCUS: Silverclaw Valley relied on a magical barrier to keep it hidden and protected, but that barrier has fallen, leaving the Valley somewhat unprepared for the real world. Silverclaw Valley's towns can muster spearmen and bowmen in some numbers, but lacking discipline. TECHNOLOGY: Medieval, but somewhat regressed. PLAYER CONTROLLED: Not at this stage. Making this as a prize for a competitive thread.

Moving forward, it became clear that Silverclaw Valley's fate would be in jeopardy for a long while yet. The town of Martton suffered from the ratfolk mischief, losing dozens to murder, disease, and confusion in the snow. Eventually, however, Martton realized that it was among the luckiest of the towns of Silverclaw. In fear of the vampire hordes and a return of the ratmen, many of Martton's people escaped the valley to nearby strongholds: the dwarven citadel of Idmidum; Ashdell, secure in an enchanted forest; well-defended Therien; and the prosperous kingdom of Aureus. With the aid of @taryc, Kaelen Silverblood held and secured Postern Fortress with Mystmarch's interests in mind, providing an anchor of peace and stability in southern Silverclaw Valley. Postern, known for its silversmiths, dovetailed with the silver mines of nearby Veerton Quarry. The Vampire Bund (praiselasol) occupied and fully conquered the heart of the valley, primarily Rustfall City and Hanrickton. The latter provided a wealth of salt, boosting the Bund's trade power. Assisted by the men of Shivercleft, a Peronan mercenary company under Luca da Conti secured Shivercleft itself, with its rich salt and silver mines. In the end, however, they were unable to sustain their push to control Leterton, the centre of the valley. The town of Leterton found itself caught between the Vampire Bund on the one hand, and the Peronan mercenaries and Shivercleft militias on the other. When both forces moved on Leterton, the town was unable to maintain its independence. Many of its inhabitants scattered; many died. Leterton's worth became debatable: what use is a trade hub when nobody wants to go there? In the end, the Bund took control, but the walled crossroads town was not the hoped-for crown jewel of the invasion. We turn now to the last great confrontation of the event: the dragon Talyn, the Vampire Bund legions, and the Dwarven paladin @aldeacer ... OOC/ Final result: RUSTFALL CITY (silver mines) - Vampire Bund HANRICKTON (salt mines) - Vampire Bund LETERTON (crossroads, significance reduced) - Vampire Bund POSTERN FORTRESS - Mystmarch vassal or ally VEERTON QUARRY (granite mines, silver mines) - Mystmarch vassal or ally MARTTON (granite mines, significance reduced) - independent SHIVERCLEFT (salt mines, silver mines) - Perona influence, trade partner
