Prince IneirinHigh-Prince, greetings from the north. Our shared trade partners have often spoken well of Aerlion's civility and strength. Your society is known to be of the highest calibre. I don't engage in empty flattery: these factors have weighed on my mind while determining whether to send this letter. I understand you have a son of some reknown and marriageable age. I seek a suitable match for my youngest daughter, Princess Mirielle. As is the custom in House Merlon, she has spent much of her youth studying abroad at the great schools in the Free City of Perona, not terribly far from Aerlion. She is bright, accomplished, and still in her maiden years, and her dowry from her mother's family is significant. I make this offer in the interests of my daughter's happiness, but also of her security. The long journey from Perona to Ashdell is hazardous, and she makes it twice per year. Likewise, Ashdell finds itself in a state of heightened readiness, under threat from a variety of conquerable but daunting forces. It would do my heart good to find Mirielle a safe home. Yours etc., King Adalric VI of Ashdell and the House of Merlon Coalhurst Palace

Mirielle MerlonUnto His Majesty, Adalric VI of the House of Merlon, King of Ashdell I greet you with the blessing of the Sea-King- may the wings of his gulls ever guard you and may the waters of your home be forever pure. I am honored that you find Aerlion of such repute. As the custodian of the honor of the Sea-King, it gives me great pleasure to hear that my people are comporting themselves in such a manner. Word has reached us of Ashdell as well- of you strong trade and skilled craftsmen. I believe it is a great honor to be held in high-regard by a king such as yourself. As for your proposal, I understand your desire for a safe home for your daughter. Ardell is unstable and I know the pain of losing a child. It is such that I do not desire any to share. I will make no promises as to her fate, save that as a member of the royal family of Aerlion, our full might of Aerlion will be consider it their sacred duty to guard her with their lives and I myself will endeavor to guard her as if she were my own child. I am inclined to agree with your assessment that such a match would be beneficial for both our children and our respective nations. It would suit Ineirin well to finally begin to settle down, especially with such a lady as your daughter appears to be. If you are fully in agreement, I propose to send a formal delegation with my representatives to treat with your honorable presnence directly so as to most fully arrange the necessary and vital logistics of such a course. Most respectfully yours, High-Prince Elyran of House Aerlion, Heir of the Sea-King, Grandmaster of the Order of the Gull Leionesse

Prince IneirinHigh-Prince Elyran, Your reply denotes the stalwart prudence and true intent that define your kingdom's reputation. I am pleased to hear that your judgment aligns with mine on this issue. My daughter is en route from school in Perona. Convenient to our further negotiations, she ought to arrive in Coalhurst around the same time as your emissaries, to whom I will offer my most sincere hospitality. In the interests of transparency between friends, I must inform you that long ago I struck a bargain with my daughter: that although I would do my fatherly duty in finding her a suitable match, the final decision would belong to her. Nevertheless, she has grown to become a young woman of judgment and duty, and by all accounts your son has every quality that she would find agreeable. Yours etc., King Adalric VI of Ashdell and the House of Merlon Coalhurst Palace

Unto His Majesty, Adalric VI of the House of Merlon, King of Ashdell, Indeed, I find it heartening that our reputation precedes us in such a noble manner. You will find that such emissaries as I send shall uphold such a reputation as it best deserves. I will trust your assessment of the travel times and hope that none of our travelers shall run into difficult circumstances upon the road. Thank you for informing me of such. You speak wisdom in such a promise and such a decision. History is not served well in unhappy marriages. In this also, I shall trust your judgment. To make such things easier, I shall send my son as part of the diplomatic party, although not as one of the diplomats. I hope that may give them the opportunity they require to know each other as they deserve. Most Respectfully Yours, High-Prince Elyran, Heir of the Sea-King, Grandmaster of the Order of the Gull Leionesse Mirielle Merlon

Prince IneirinHigh-Prince Elyran, Factors have arisen which may necessitate an alteration in our intentions. Rest assured that I speak not of my willingness to proceed with the pairing of our royal children, nor of any shift in my daughter's inclinations. I speak instead of three unusual events. While returning to Ashdell, Princess Mirielle and her escort became embroiled in the confluence of interests surrounding the fall of Vaundsburg's benighted regime. While I am assured that she is safe, and have certain letters from her, she has been delayed somewhat, and much closer to your territory than to mine. Therefore, I have taken the liberty of sending a dozen knights and a force of bowmen to escort her to Aerlionesse, for her safety and to expedite our purposes. Her safety becomes more paramount in light of reports which indicate that the land of Therien has become ensnared in diverse interests. Powerful and malevolent magics, armed forces of various unpredictable nations, and a potential civil war of succession make me loathe to allow my daughter to return to Ashdell by passing through that region. The third notable event which affects my decision is the marshaling of your forces, and the commensurate threat of the Malzentine Empire. Please accept the aid of the knights and bowmen whom I have sent to escort my daughter to Aerlionesse. Most respectfully yours, Adalric VI, King of Ashdell

Unto His Majesty, Adalric IV, King of Ashdell,
It is welcome to hear news from you and I too share your concerns regarding your daughter's safety in central Ardell. Ineirin was present for the events at Therien and Vaundsburg and his reports justify your concerns. It is a relief for me to hear that your daughter is close enough to make a journey to our lands. As he has just returned to his post at Aerlionesse, I shall dispatch a letter to him immediately so that he shall be informed of her impending arrival.
It shall be no trouble at all to sail her safely from the mainland to Aerlion, where she shall give her a welcome that is worthy of her station so she might become accustomed to our ways and culture before the ceremony. I do hope that you shall be joining us for the happy event? It would be a great honor to host your and your family for the ceremony so you might experience life in Aerlion in person.
Honorably yours, High Prince Elyran, Heir to the Sea-King, Grandmaster of the Order of the Gull

High-Prince Elyran,
I write this missive in a state of the most profound relief. After an arduous journey, my noble daughter Mirielle has returned safely to Ashdell. After a heartfelt reunion, a fast courier escorted her to the knights and bowmen whom I had dispatched for her safety. I have since received word that they have crossed the mountains without incident and secured three river-ships to make the final stretch of the journey to your fair kingdom. Swan willing, it may be that they arrive before this letter, though I shall dispatch it to you by the quickest possible means. At that stage, our plans may proceed apace. I will proceed to Aerlion for the wedding as soon as I have completed certain defensive arrangements, lest the undead of the Bund, the northeast highlands, or the remnants of Vaundsburg pose a threat in my absence.
Most respectfully yours, Adalric VI, King of Ashdell
