If a writer leaves Kingmakers RP for three months, their kingdoms become vulnerable to conquest. If a writer came to Kingmakers very briefly and their kingdoms were essentially unused after creation, that time limit decreases to six weeks.
A new kingdom may be created in that place on the map, or an existing kingdom may conquer the defunct kingdom.
In either case, the writer should treat the defunct kingdom respectfully. There’s nothing worse than coming back to find your creations have been destroyed. Here are some examples:
All cases of defunct kingdoms will be handled case-by-case by our Mapmaker, Velaeri, at her discretion.

In either case, the writer should treat the defunct kingdom respectfully. There’s nothing worse than coming back to find your creations have been destroyed. Here are some examples:
- Bob has a kingdom of elves and Jill has an adjacent kingdom of undead orcs. Bob leaves Kingmakers for three months, and Jill has been massing her forces. She writes a thread (maybe private, maybe public) about conquering and oppressing the elven kingdom, breaking the strength of the elven armies, exacting tribute, etc. That’s all fine, but it wouldn’t be appropriate for her to tear down the cities, salt the fields, and massacre every last elf to turn into undead thralls. There’s plenty of room to be both realistic and proportionate about these things. We’re all adults here.
- Jim has a kingdom of vampires and Jon feels the need to write a tribe of trolls in that exact spot on the map. Jim leaves Kingmakers for three months, and Jon creates a new kingdom in the same location. It wouldn’t be appropriate for Jon to create a kingdom that totally ignores what’s come before, or for him to specify that the new people absolutely destroyed the old people. Ideally, Jon would use the defunct vampire kingdom as a resource for his own world-building: maybe his trolls live in a cleared-out vampire lair in the nigh-abandoned capital. Maybe the trolls have a vampire problem around the dark corners of their new territory. The key here is to respect what’s come before so that the territory evolves in cool ways, without too much of a restriction on the new guy’s creativity.
