NAME: The City of Draccin
KINGDOM AT A GLANCE: A city-state founded and primarily inhabited it by dragon-folk, they have abandoned their old ways of wealth production through raiding and conquest and instead turned to banking and economic means.
SIZE AND LOCATION: A wealthy city located on the coast due South of Macharia.
WEALTH: High, they take high taxes from those who would trade here and charge relatively high interest on the largest loans they offer, especially those taken out by kingdoms. But they are also the last major stopping point before sailing to the Eastern coasts, so there is little opportunity to bypass it. They exact heavy collateral, both as part of their dragonish nature and to ensure the repayment of loans and interest. Princesses are sometimes accepted as collateral.
STABILITY: Medium- there is a sense of discontent and frustration among the lower class non-dragon folk population who are oppressed and taxed more heavily than others. It is possible a rebellion might forment in future decades.
DANGER TO TRAVELERS: Medium- the city is filled to bursting with people with a large divide between wealth and power, so crime is common, the law is harsh, and it is easy to fall afoul of it without meaning to, leading to heavy fines or imprisonment.
FORM OF GOVERNMENT: There is a council of the wealthiest dragon-folk who run the city in its entirety. It numbers about a dozen, with their will being enforced by the City Watch, which is exclusively composed of dragon-folk warriors. The vaults are massive, gloomy buildings made of stone where the dragon-folk lounge upon their accumulated hoards.
FREEDOM AND OPPRESSION: It is dictatorial, with little freedom and a great deal of government control.
COMMON SPECIES: 70% dragon folk, 20% human, 10% misc.
MILITARY FOCUS: The City Watch is their primary defensive force, being large, well-organized, and well-equipped. Being dragon-folk, they are larger and stronger than the average humans, with some being able to spit acid from their mouths, and thick scales that are difficult to pierce. More chillingly, in every loan agreement, they provide a stipulation that should they be attacked, they can call upon their debtors for military aid or forfeit collateral, which often being family members, gives a definite pause to any who might attack. They also hire mages from the Tower for their defense.
TECHNOLOGY: Early Renaissance
PLAYER CONTROLLED: No, it's a setting.
