NAME: Fianoich
True Name- kept secret
GENDER: Female
AGE: Ageless (What is aging?)
SPECIES: Fae of the Winter Court
DESCRIPTION: Fianoich appears to be a woman, shorter than most human women, with unnaturally pale skin and long white hair that falls beneath her shoulders. Her eyes are completely white, with no sign of pupils. Even her lips are a very pale pink, hardly even rich enough to be seen as pink, but perhaps closer to a dying sunset or long-spilled blood upon snow.
PROFESSION: She exists to amuse herself and increase the power of the Winter Court
WEALTH: Wealthy in the sense that she has all she needs to survive in comfort and can take what she wants as she desires them
COMBAT ROLE: Some fae are renowned for the prowess in battle and the wildness that characterizes them, but that is not the nature of Fianoich. She instead uses glamour, the art of changing how things appear. Illusions and deceptions character what her abilities in what mortals would refer to as magic, but for her, is as natural as breathing.
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:
-Iron: Like all fae, she is allergic to iron. It burns her and can often injure her severely with prolonged contact. Not that she can't act when in contact with it, but it's excruciating.
-Can't tell a lie: For all her skill in illusions and deception, it is not in the nature of the Fae to speak a lie. Manipulate, shade, and color the truth to achieve their ends, yes, but not outright lying. When she makes a bargain, she will hold to the letter, neither anything more nor anything less. The spirit of the law is irrelevant to her.
-One Emotion: Mortals are capable of feeling multiple emotions at one time in varying strengths and choose what they can act upon, the fae feel one thing at time to an excess and often can't control how they express the emotion. This makes them vulnerable to such things as music or poetry or other crafts that invoke emotion.
-Seasonally bound- As a part of the Winter Court, her power waxes and wanes with the seasons and where she is. In winter, she is stronger, with it being the strongest on midwinter's eve, and in cold, harsh climates. Summer, she is weaker, more vulnerable.
-The fae can die, but it is not in the same way as mortals. They have no souls or spirits, but are closer to personifications of an aspect of nature. So when a fae-being is killed, by others normally unless they voluntarily choose to, their memories and personalities are reabsorbed into the fey, until eventually, they will return to being as a new aspect of themselves.
-She's remarkably strong and agile for her apparent delicate appearance.
-Immune to weather- she is not affected by the physicality of weather- either cold or hot, but by the power that characterizes the seasons.
-Skilled enchantress- while the strength of her power is bound to the cycle of the seasons, she can still weave illusions and magic that are hard to see through at first glance.
MAJOR MOTIVATIONS: Winter Court fae are bound to the Winter King and while they are independent enough so they can and often do scheme and manipulate for their own ends, they are tied to his goal. Fae, even the more benevolent fae of the Summer Court, are self-centered at the core. Winter fae deire to spread the influence and strength of winter so that they might have more power. Fianoich is no different- she desires to increase her own power, her own fame, and to be revered amongst fae and mortal. She is driven by her ego and cares nothing for the effects or machinations of the mortal world.
MAGIC: Fae magic is strange both in how they act and how they view it. Mortals see magic often as something they learn or something they train to be better at, especially for a mage. For fae, what mortals call magic is as natural to them as breathing. In fact, it is the same to them as breathing. They can weave a spell that makes a log look like an infant, often but not always through songs of their own. Their music itself, to humans, can seem to be magic- for it can compel unguarded listeners to dance and dance until they die from exhaustion or manage to be rescued. Indeed, for many mortals, especially humans, the fae themselves are magical or enchanting and they often manipulate this to their advantage, ensnaring humans to do their bidding or to be a novelty lover. The fae live in their own reality, their own dimension, that they simply call the fey. It parallels the physical world and often mirrors it, but is separated by a thin veil that can be torn free on moonless nights, solstices, and in ancient places where the memory lies as heavy as the first snowstorm of the year. The fae manipulate reality, and their own, to best suit their needs and purposes. Few if any can do anything drastic or directly offensive, but their magic is still powerful. It is possible to summon one of the fey if one has enough power to send the call rippling through the fey with enough compulsion to bring them, and if one is skilled enough with words, even possible to bind them to one's will. Hardly a wise move, as the fury of an imprisoned fey knows no end and will last for more human lifetimes than most can count, and they will stop at nothing for their revenge.
Fianoich prefers to cast illusions to help her deceive mortals to suit her needs, but it does not limit her. She can spoil food, turns animals bad, heal injuries, find lost people, ensnare mortals in sleeping spells, change their memories, change her form, weave protective garments for those who earn her favor. She also walks the faen roads, a series of magical pathways woven amidst reality that bring places together quicker than physical roads- all fae have the ability to bring mortals into these roads and give them the secrets to travel. The wars of light and dark, good and evil, have no bearing upon the faen courts, for regardless of the outcome, the world will survive. Winter shall come and so shall summer. The world shall go on and it is to the physical world that the fae are bound. They may consort with those on either side, be they the beings of Darkness or beings of Light, as they choose, but they feel beholden to none and only ally themselves as they feel best
BACKGROUND: Humans cannot count the seasonal cycles in which Fianoich has existed, and for that matter, neither can she. She remembers the isle of Estel and the cataclysm that wrought its destruction, but such a thing is hardly more than an interesting tidbit, like what one ate for lunch a week ago. She has seen the rise and fall of empires, but paid little attention to the affairs of mortals, except when they amused her. Fianioch is a member of the Winter Court, with some repute and prestige among her kind. Hardly a power player, but recognized. Mortals amuse her and she enjoys them. Often times, this is malicious pranks and tricks that she weaves around them, taking joy from their suffering. But, she has also taken mortal lovers and granted them her favor. As one who can change her appearance, she is not restrained by mortal race, but prefers the humanoid ones, for their passions and drives are greater than the beasts of the wild. Her last lover was a champion of the Mapheri Empire in its rise to power, and she gave him enchanted clothes, enchanted weapons, and the healing of the Fae. But mortals are bound to their fates and eventually he began to grow old and wither. She spirited him away to the fey to preserve him for herself, but he eventually asked one last favor, to be returned to the mortal realm. Concerned, she agreed, and he faded to dust as soon as they returned, several centuries having passed in the timeless realm of the fey. She grieved for years at that loss, bewildered by a human's willingness, or desire, to die and not be recreated. Her influence was noticed, however, and she was written into the record as a supporter of the empire, although she would hardly agree. A court mage of the empire in the dying days of the dynasty, found half-forgotten tales of her influence and bound her to his will in an attempt to salvage the empire. She did as she was ordered, but sabotaged his efforts whenever possible. When ordered to guide imperial soldiers to battlefields through the faen realms, she would do so, but have them arrive far too late, or guide them to a forgotten battlefield in the wilderness and abandon them. The mage burned her with iron, but not even the cold of iron is colder than the hatred of one who embodies a blizzard in midwinter, and she persisted, until the mage was critically wounded by a party of attackers and he commanded her to save him. She did, by taking him into the fey and binding him with rock onto a cliff-face in the far north, preserved by her power to survive in agony from the wound and the ceaseless cold. Freed from the imperial bindings, she vanished from the mortal realm for a while until she grew bored with scheming among her own kind and sought something to bring her glory and fame one more, ignoring the dangers posed from previous times. Fianoich seeks a champion she can use for her renown and as an insult to the Summer Court and Hefayne, the god they favor and have a relationship with.
