VOEK KAI
THE INFINITE LABYRINTH
Voek Kai is the name of ancient ruins in the Cairou Mountains. These ruins have been abandoned for centuries. Voek Kai is also known as the Infinite Labyrinth - a dungeon of unknown depth full of dangerous creatures. It was built by the ancient, long-dead civilization of the Nathigwen (Precursors).
DANGER TO TRAVELERS:
Travelers near Voek Kai must be wary of bandits.
The first 11 Levels of the Infinite Labyrinth have been purged of all creatures - making them safe from monsters.
Before the purging of the first 11 Levels, monsters would normally leave the Infinite Labyrinth in search of food and prey on travelers on the road.
THE INFINITE LABYRINTH:
The Infinite Labyrinth of Voek Kai is separated into levels - similar how a building is separated by floors. The Level number indicates how deep it is - the higher the number, the deeper.
The only way to tell the passing of time is through the ever changing direction of the "wind". Even in the deepest levels, the wind will change from blowing "out" to blowing "in" and vice versa at set intervals. Many have described this phenomenon as if Voek Kai is breathing.
The architecture of Voek Kai's labyrinth is unlike anything else discovered on the continent. The deeper one goes, the more "eldritch" everything appears.
The ruins on the first eleven levels paint a story of why the Infinite Labyrinth exists. Supposedly, a "God" named Nadou is at the bottom and Voek Kai is his prison.
As a general rule, the Labyrinth's monsters and traps become more dangerous the deeper one goes.
LEVELS 1 to 11:
Levels 1 to 11 have been rid of monsters since the Imperial army performed a culling of them a few centuries ago. These levels were dominated by living creatures - such as goblins, ogres, orcs, and other such monsters driven insane by the Labyrinth. Because of this, they posed a danger to travelers and caravans going to and from Elbion and Pekalan as they would emerge from the labyrinth to find food.
The army stopped the culling at Level 11 - when it became apparent that the only monsters left were non-living creatures such as the Undead, Spirits, and Elementals. A massive door blocking the stairway to Level 12 was then created.
No treasures are left on these Levels.
LEVELS 12 to 23:
These levels are populated by non-living monsters. This includes zombies, skeletons, elementals, and other such creatures. Many of these monsters have already been slain.
Some treasure still exists in these Levels - yet it will all be hidden. Explorers and adventurers have already taken obvious loot.
Level 23 is the furthest anyone is known to have gone. A massive skeletal dragon blocks the stairway to Level 24.
LEVELS 24 to :
These levels are unexplored and very dangerous, yet are sure to contain great treasures and secrets. Many paths will be blocked by puzzles.
If one traveled deep enough, they will most likely confront Nadou, who is supposed to be buried beneath Voek Kai.
